How to submit

How to write and submit a letter to the editor.

General, outlet-neutral guidance. Always follow the specific outlet's own published rules — this directory links to each outlet's submission page so you can check requirements and submit there.

Submit Letters is an independent public reference directory. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of any listed publication or outlet. Submission details are gathered from each outlet's own public pages and are provided for convenience only; always confirm requirements on the outlet's official page before submitting. Submit Letters does not receive, review, edit, or forward letters.

01

Pick a local outlet

Letters land best in the paper your neighbors and local decision-makers read. Use the directory to find outlets in your state and metro.

02

Keep it short and local

Most outlets cap letters between 150 and 250 words. Make one clear point, tie it to something the outlet recently covered, and write in your own voice.

03

Include what the outlet requires

Nearly every outlet asks for your full name and a way to verify you — usually a phone number and your city. Some require local residency. Each listing notes what we could verify.

04

Submit on the outlet's own page

Follow the submission link in the listing and submit directly to the outlet. We never collect or forward your letter — this is a directory, not a submission service.
